West Bengal Sports Minister Manoj Tiwary, who made a foray into politics in this year’s parliamentary elections, was included on Monday in a likely list of 39 members of the Bengal Cricket Association (CAB). The former Bengal captain played his last game in the Ranji Trophy final against Saurashtra in March 2020.
It can be recalled here that despite entering politics earlier this year, Tiwary had not ruled out playing cricket.
“I will maintain my physical shape. I’ll wait and see how it goes, but I’m not ruling out playing a few more games for Bengal, ”Tiwary said after winning in the Shibpur constituency.
The likely seniors of Bengal will have a fitness camp starting July 23.
“Attendance is mandatory. The physical condition parameters defined by the Association must be respected by all players. The probabilities of the Bengal team will be announced after the fitness camp,” read a statement released by the CAB.
Eaerlier, former Indian batsman VVS Laxman was selected as Bengal’s batting consultant, while Laxmi Ratan Shukla was appointed under-23 coach, marking his return to cricket six years after entering politics.
The CAB also retained veteran Arun Lal as head coach, while promoting Sourasish Lahiri as assistant coach of the senior team.
