India welcomed two new players making their international ODI debuts as the three-game ODI series kicked off on Sunday. Coach Rahul Dravid has welcomed Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav to the relatively inexperienced squad while India’s top players are engaged in a series of tests in England.
“It’s obviously a great success. It’s nice to welcome two people into the family. This is the result of a lot of hard work for each of these boys, not only for themselves but also for their families, ”said Dravid while welcoming both Ishan and Surya.

Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the draw and chose to strike first in the series opener at R. Premadasa Stadium. Both teams field relatively inexperienced teams. Sri Lanka’s managers have opted for a youth policy, with senior players systematically failing to win matches and also embroiled in a salary dispute with the cricket council.
Drummer Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who has appeared in seven Twenty20 games for Sri Lanka, is making his ODI debut. Shanaka takes over as captain from Kusal Perera, who is excluded from the series due to injury.
Indian goalkeeper-batter Sanju Samson could be left out of the White Ball series against Sri Lanka after sustaining a knee ligament injury during a training session, leaving him unavailable for the first ODI on Sunday.
“Sanju Samson has sprained a ligament in his knee and was therefore not available for selection for this match. The medical team is monitoring their progress at the moment,” the BCCI media team informed.
The Sri Lanka series includes three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals. The Indian team is led by Shikhar Dhawan with Rahul Dravid as head coach.
