The temptation to wield the club was overwhelming on the greens of the Hyderabad Golf Association course, next to the historic Golconda Fort.
Even for someone like the great Indian cricketer VVS Laxman, who was here to honor the official launch on Monday of the first edition of the Sreenidhi University Telangana Premier Golf League (TPGL) to be held September 12-21.

With proven skills with the willow tree, Laxman, who was interesting at the golf course for the first time a few miles from his residence, initially seemed reluctant to take the club and try the tee-off.
But, when convinced that he can definitely test his “skills” after resisting the best bowling attacks with such ease on a cricket pitch, Laxman ultimately couldn’t say no.
Unsurprisingly, after the first point-blank putt attempt, Laxman, like any newcomer to the golf course, was thrilled and excited to have a few more strokes.
And, Laxman’s big smile after he approached the putting was pretty much understandable.

Of course, after the first feel of the golf course, it was obvious that this wouldn’t be the first and last visit to the site and that he would be a regular.
“I am sure many young golfers will embrace this sport after the Premier League,” said Laxman, adding that the league would be a “trendsetter”.
“The atmosphere here is amazing and the culture of Hyderabad Golf Club is unique with little commercialization.”
“I have heard a lot about this course from my dear friend Venkatapathi Raju (former Indian left arm spinner and now regular golfer). As professional athletes, we always try to be the best in whatever area we choose, ”he added with a big smile.
