Tokyo gold medalists to receive Rs 75 lakh from Indian Olympic Association | Tokyo Olympic Games News

NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on Thursday that it will give Tokyo Olympics gold medalists a cash award of Rs 75 lakh, in addition to giving each of the national sports federations (NSF ) participating a bonus of Rs 25 lakh.
The IOA advisory committee recommended that silver medalists be awarded Rs 40 lakh, while bronze medalists will be awarded Rs 25 lakhs.
“He also recommended a sum of Rs. 1 lakh to each athlete representing the country at the Tokyo Olympics,” the IOA said in a statement.
The IOA also acknowledged the suggestions of its advisory group that a bonus of Rs. 25 lakh be given to each participating NSF and additional support of Rs 30 lakh to each NSF medalist.
In addition, support of Rs.15 lakhs each will be received by the other member national sports federations.
“This is the first time that the IOA has recognized both medalists and NSF medal producers so much,” said IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta.
The advisory group also recommended a pocket allowance of $ 50 per day to each member of the Indian contingent for the actual days of stay in Tokyo.
The IOA also said that the Olympic associations of the Member States “will also receive a sum of Rs 15 lakh each, as the IOA’s contribution to the development of sports infrastructure in the States and the encouragement of greater number of athletes participating in sports “.
Mehta said: “The Indian Olympic Association understands the difficulties faced by athletes and federations and felt that support and assistance is needed by all National Sports Federations, State Olympic Associations and, most importantly, the athletes, having overcome obstacles and difficult times during the coronavirus pandemic since March of last year. ”
