The Women’s T20 Challenge 2021 could be canceled due to logistical issues ahead of the rest of the IPL in the UAE.
Officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sealed the fate of the 14e edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by confirming the UAE as the host for the remaining 31 matches. The verdict on the ICC T20 World Cup is not out yet, but there is almost a decision made on the Women’s T20 Challenge.
The three-team women’s IPL which is running successfully from 2018 and has given future stars like Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav and Harleen Deol, is almost certain not to be organized this year given that the rescheduled match of the l ‘IPL does not have the option of including the Women’s T20 Challenge. .
While there is no official word yet on the tournament cancellation, a source familiar with the matter has confirmed the development of the future of the three-team tournament.
There was no discussion of the Women’s T20 Challenge during the last SGM, but the board has already finalized this. India will be touring Australia in September for an extended tour and WBBL will follow, so naturally we are unable to host the event, ”a senior BCCI official told Cricket.com.
The Women’s T20 Challenge may not be played this year in the United Arab Emirates
The tour is expected to be canceled as the India women’s team is set to travel down for an all-format series, which will start on September 19 and run through October 11. Meanwhile, the rest of the 14e season of IPL tentatively begins the third week of September, which calls into question the future of the Women’s T20 Challenge for this season.
As per the original plan, BCCI had decided to hold the T20 Challenge in Delhi during the IPL qualifiers, but without giving any official news, the board suggested players be ready for the cancellation. Also last year, BCCI officials said at the last minute that the Women’s T20 Challenge would take place in the United Arab Emirates. This year, a few female cricketers are hoping that the three-team tournament will be held, but due to logistical issues the women’s IPL may be canceled this year.
“The main sponsors, Reliance Jio, were also briefed on the development by the board of directors. There is a World Cup in a few months and our goal is to complete the IPL and the World Cup, ”added the source.
