Some options may replace English players in the 2021 IPL.
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is expected to take place in September. All the teams would stand up to enter the field and start from where they left off. However, the only issue each team will face is the unavailability of English players for the second phase of the 2021 IPL.
Ashley Giles, ECB director of cricket, had announced that England had a busy schedule ahead of the T20 World Cup while confirming that they would rest players on occasion. England will fly to Bangladesh and Pakistan for bilateral playoffs ahead of the T20 World Cup. Their busy schedule leaves them with no window to participate in the IPL, which is scheduled to take place from mid-September to the second week of October in the United Arab Emirates.
It’s a big blow for several teams, as a lot of teams have a lot of key players who come from England. Thus, they will have to replace all their English players with players from other countries. Today we’ll take a look at –
Replacement of English players if they do not show up in the UAE stage of IPL 2021
1) Chennai Super Kings – Devon Conway and Tim Southee:
If England players skip the rest of the 2021 IPL, then Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be one of the teams affected. Two of their foreign players playing in their XI during the first half of the tournament were English players. CSK are heavily dependent on Moeen Ali and Sam Curran and they need their replacements to be as good as them.
Devon Conway and Tim Southee are the ideal replacements for the two English all-rounders. While Conway isn’t a all-rounder, he’s in the shape of a life and is an ideal top-notch drummer for the Yellow Army. He can damage the opposition just like Moeen and also play winning shots against strong oppositions.
While Tim Southee’s form in the game’s shortest format hasn’t quite been the best, he’s a veteran and his experience can be of use to MS Dhoni and his boys. He can bowling with the new ball like Sam Curran. He can also hit some vigorous hits with the bat. It would be safe to say that these two New Zealanders are ideal replacements for the English all-rounders of CSK.
