Hardik Pandya, a versatile Indian bowler, is getting closer to being available to play regularly in the near future, Suryakumar Yadav confirmed at the pre-series press conference.
Yadav has revealed that Hardik Pandya won a few overs in the intra-squad match India played a few days ago.
“He bowled in the series in England [at home earlier this year]. I was one of them – in every T20 game he bowled. In the ODI decision maker, he also played when the team was in a critical situation, so that was good, ”Suryakumar Yadav said during the pre-series virtual press conference.
“I think the team management and Hardik knew their responsibilities very well, so they took a call. Here in the intra-team game he has played in the net. He is playing bowling. It is up to him and the management of the team how they want to go about it. But yeah, he’s bowling and that’s a really good sign. he added.
Since returning from a back injury, Hardik Pandya has mainly played as a specialist hitter.
He has played on an odd occasion for the Indian team in the last two white ball assignments against Australia and England, but that has not been the case in the IPL.
“As a versatile fast bowler I tend to get injured” – Hardik Pandya
Pandya was not selected for the Indian test team for the tour of England as part of their recovery process from the back injury.
Pandya gives the test team excellent balance in sewing conditions like England but for that he needs to become perfectly fit to bowling.
However, right now the main focus of the swashbuckling all-rounder is the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“I started bowling at IPL and my focus is on the World Cup. I want to make sure that I can play in all the matches of the World Cup. I’m just trying to be smart and make sure I don’t miss it. On the bowling front, what matters is how fit I am, ”Hardik Pandya told Sportscast last month.
“Even after my operation, I didn’t slow down my pace. I couldn’t let go of my control. My bowling is linked to my physical form. The fitter I am, the better. As a versatile fast bowler I tend to get injured. It has to happen and I’m okay with it, ”he said.
“For India, I realized that my bowling makes a lot of difference because the balance changes. In IPL I am fortunate to have a franchise where there is so much love that I was able to choose my stick and make sure that for India I am able to be my best. I have to make sure that I am in good shape to be able to play and if I play, it brings balance to the team, ”he added.
Hardik Pandya’s bowling is extremely crucial for the Indian white ball cricket team as it gives them an added option for bowling given that none of the top five Indians have the capacity to participate with a few overs.
The next series against Sri Lanka will give us a fair account of where Hardik Pandya – the bowler – is at the moment.
