David Warner becomes the first player to reach 4,000 IPL races for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
A milestone day for David Warner, but he also endured one of a captain’s most horrific days on the pitch. It all started in the draw after David Warner chose to beat first when MS Dhoni said he expected the dew. Warner struggled to hit a fifty ball fifty, while Manish Pandey scored his fifty at a slightly faster pace. There was no sign of accelerating, and despite losing just one wicket, SRH scored just under seven and a half by more in Game 23 of IPL 2021.
While Lungi Ngidi fired Warner and Pandey in quick succession, SRH also picked up the pace, albeit a bit too late. Kane Williamson was the leader in the late acceleration, scoring 26 on 10 balls, followed by Jadhav’s four and the last six two balls.
SRH set a target of 172, which only looked like a few tries due to the dew factor. But once the chase started, CSK never presented SRH a chance by believing it was only “a few” short of points. At the ten plus mark, the top pair scored 91 points knocking down half the target. A clear sign of dominance shown, with Faf du Plessis in his supreme form scoring the third fifty in a row. Rashid Khan started out expensive then three quick wickets, but he came when the game was over and dusted off. With the occasional limits under a less required rate, Raina and Jadeja made sure there were no more hiccups and brought CSK home.
Here is an overview of the statistics produced during the RH
1 – It was the first time the Hyderabad Sunrisers have struck first this season, but that couldn’t stop their disastrous run as they continue to stay at the bottom of the table.
4 – David Warner became the fifth player to reach 10,000 T20 races after Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Shoaib Malik.
200 – David Warner became the eighth player to hit 200 sixes and the fourth foreign player. Other foreign players who have done so are Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Kieron Pollard.
50 – David Warner also became the first player to reach 50 in IPL. Shikhar Dhawan is the second highest in half a century with 43, followed by Kohli, Rohit and Villiers – all in 40 balls.
4000 – Another important step. David Warner becomes the first player to reach 4,000 IPL races for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The second highest is Shikhar Dhawan with only 2518 runs.
50 – Reaching his fifty out of 50 balls, it was the slowest 50 for David Warner in his IPL career. The previous slowest was 49 balls against the Punjab Kings in 2019.
2 – Faf du Plessis becomes the second Chennai Super Kings player to score three consecutive scores of over fifty, the first being Ruturaj Gaikwad in CSK’s last three games in 2020.
1 – This is the first time that Rashid Khan has chosen 3 or more wickets in a round this IPL season. Also the first time, Rashid picked 3 wickets in a set against CSK. His 3/36 numbers are the best for an SRH player against CSK, following Amit Mishra’s 3/26 in Chennai in 2013.
26.6% – The winning percentage of Sunrisers Hyderabad against Chennai Super Kings in IPL, with only 4 wins and 11 losses. This is by far their lowest against any team.
