The Melbourne Renegades, having lost 10 of their 13 appearances, have no chance of advancing to the 2020-21 Big Bash League (BBL) playoffs. In reality, Aaron Finch and Co are set to end as Cellar Dwellers even though they beat the Hobart Hurricanes in their final league game on Tuesday. In the midst of their shoddy campaign, one player who has impressed a lot is Peter Hatzoglou.

The 22-year-old made his T20 debut in the current BBL and has 16 wickets of 12 games at an economy rate of 8.48. The tweaker has caught the attention of a number of experts, including spin wizard Shane Warne. The former Aussie bowler was in awe of Hatzoglou’s performance and even said he could strike a lucrative deal at the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.

I was impressed by Peter Hatzoglou: Shane Warne

“I think there would be a lot of interest in Hatzoglou in the world. Especially in the IPL and tournaments like that. I bet he got picked up in the IPL like he bowled. A lot of franchises out there will look at him and say “Wow he could be a real handful in India,” “Warne said on Fox Sports.

Hatzoglou has risen through the ranks in recent years. Three years ago he competed in third year cricket for the University of Melbourne. For now, he got to hang out with people like Finch, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Nabi and Rilee Rossouw, among others.

Warne said that while he doesn’t give much turns on the ball, the Young Turk has the skills to ruffle a batsman. “I was impressed with this guy. I think the way he plays, the way he puts it in the pitch, he gives him a scary fizz in his hand before he plays.

“He’s not a great thrower, but he plays the back of the hand so he does leg hops. He can have an occasional one straighten out. He’s looking to play the ball fast, on the pitch and hit the top of the stumps, ”he said.
