A day after the IPL auction before the 2021 season, two superstars from two different teams went in opposite directions over their position to participate in the IPL when it conflicted with international commitments.
Shakib al Hasan, which was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 3.2 crore at the auction, has been cleared by the Bangladesh Cricket Board to skip next month’s test round against Sri Lanka in order to be able to participate in the IPL, according to Prothom Aalo. On the other hand, Kagiso Rabada of the Delhi capitals has said he will pick the South African series over Pakistan if it comes up against part of the IPL, according to IOL.

Bangladesh’s test run against Sri Lanka, which was postponed twice last year due to the pandemic, is slated for April to follow the extended deadline for the ICC World Testing Championship (WTC) .
South Africa are expected to play four T20Is and three ODIs against Pakistan from April 2-16.
The IPL is scheduled to start on April 11.
“Shakib wants to play T20s right now,” said Akram Khan, head of cricket operations in Bangladesh. “He doesn’t want to play tests. He requested time off for the IPL. We also don’t want to force someone who doesn’t want to play the tests, which is why the board decided to give him the leave.
“The country comes first and I risk missing a week of the IPL if the Pakistan series is scheduled at the same time the IPL starts. Delhi has been my home in India, but national duty is a priority, ”he said.
