Shafali Verma and Sneh Rana nominated for ‘ICC player of the month’ after their exploits against England | Cricket News

DUBAI: Indian teen threshing sensation Shafali Verma and versatile Sneh Rana were nominated for the ICC ‘Player of the Month’ award for June on Wednesday after their outstanding performances in the current series against England.
Besides the Indian duo, English spinner Sophie Ecclestone was also nominated for honor in the female category.
The nominees among the men are New Zealand drummer Devon Conway and pacer Kyle Jamieson as well as South African goalkeeper Quinton de Kock.
Shafali, 17, who had already impressed everyone in the match’s shortest format, made a superb Test debut against England and was named Player of the Match in the Bristol game.
The flamboyant teenager became the first Indian woman and the fourth of all countries to score half centuries in both rounds of a first test, scoring 96 and 63.
Her first innings score was the highest by an Indian woman in her debut. She also totaled 59 points in two ODIs against India at a strike rate of 85.50.
All-rounder Rana also had a memorable test debut at Bristol with 80 of 154 unbeaten deliveries, helping India avoid defeat to England after being forced to call.
Earlier in the game, she finished with four for 131, representing Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones, among others. She also took a for 43 in an ODI against the same team.
England left-arm spinner Ecclestone was the most successful pitcher in the single test against India, finishing with a total of eight for 206 for an average of 25.75.
The 22-year-old grabbed four wickets in each round of the test match. She also had three in each of the two ODIs that followed during the month, her six wickets averaging 12.16 and a savings rate of 3.65.
Among the male nominees, Conway smashed a double century when he debuted at Lord’s trial in June. He followed it with half centuries in his next two tests, including the ICC Test World Championship final, to accumulate 379 races with an average of 63.16.
De Kock finished as a player of the series against the West Indies, scoring 141 unbeaten in the first test and 96 in the second test for a total of 237 points with an average of 118.50.
Jamieson was the player of the match in the Test World Championship final against India in Southampton, finishing with numbers seven for 61.
He fired Indian captain Virat Kohli in both innings, while his other scalps included Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant. He played two Tests during the month, finishing with 10 wickets at an average of 17.40.
