Skipper Sanju Samson couldn’t have asked for a better show from his leaders, who scripted the Rajasthan Royals’ six-wicket victory, while Eoin Morgan lamented his team’s ordinary batting performance in the IPL here on Saturday.
The Royals easily chased a modest 134-point goal for their second win of the season after their coaches limited rivals to 133 for nine.
Samson himself made a calculated 42-point stroke in his team’s victory.
“It was great actually. Bowlers have performed well in the last four to five games – young and old alike. I love leading them, ”Samson said at the post-game presentation ceremony.
“We could see in Morris’s eyes that he wanted the competition to bring out the great batsmen,” he said of Chris Morris, who performed with a four-wicket transport.
Samson said he doesn’t enter the fold with a specific “state of mind.”
“I love to keep enjoying my stick, but today I’m playing based on a situation and trying to win games for my team.”
KKR skipper Eoin Morgan regretted the bad show from his hitters.
“The bat was a disappointment and we lacked a lot of intention throughout the heats. We were behind the game from the start. Maybe we were missing 40 which is a lot in a T20 game, “said the England player.
“The bowlers had too much to do. It’s a stark contrast to the last game. The wicket was not as good as in previous matches and we were unable to meet the challenge. It left us with a lot to do, which we couldn’t do, ”he added.
Morgan stressed the need to play freely.
“The clearer the mind, the easier it is. Ultimately, a guy has to play cricket smoothly. Two teams are struggling to gain ground in the tournament and we missed two big points, ”he said.
