Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: The Rajasthan Royals traded Robin Uthappa to three-time title winner Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2021 IPL. The trade was made as part of an all-cash deal by the franchise and the veteran drummer will be seen alongside the MS Dhoni.
Uthappa last season for Rajasthan Royals played 12 games in which he scored 196 points with 41 as his best IPL 2020 score.
The Rajasthan Royals, despite opening the season with big back-to-back wins in Sharjah, finished bottom in the points table after the end of the League stages.
“I really enjoyed my time with the Royals and it was a pleasure to play for them. I’m really excited for my new chapter with the Chennai Super Kings and look forward to working with them, ” Robin Uthappa said in a statement.
Chennai Super Kings will be Robin’s sixth IPL franchise and he previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) Pune Warriors India (PWI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
So far, Uthappa has played 189 IPL games in which he has amassed 4,607 points for an average of 27.92. His IPL career also spans 24 half centuries.

In a statement, COO RR Jake Lush McCrum thanked the 35-year-old for his contribution. “We would like to thank Robbie for his contribution during his stay with us. He has provided significant added value in the season in our camps in Guwahati and Nagpur, and his speech at our World Cup winners session during the season was one of the most powerful we have heard, “ he said.
“We have personally loved working with him for years and we have the depth of the forerunners. We had an offer and we thought it was a good opportunity for all the teams and the player. Rajasthan Royals wishes Robin Uthappa all the best for his future with CSK and beyond, ” he added.
On January 20, Rajasthan Royals released eight players. This included their skipper Steve Smith. Sanju Samson is named the new side skipper for IPL 2021.
