The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were the first Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise to announce the list of their players released and retained before the January 20 deadline. After failing to win the 2020 IPL, the franchise is determined to start over and have therefore hired former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar as a batting consultant for the coming season.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last played in the IPL final in 2016 and were last on the points table in IPL 2017 and IPL 2019. They changed things up a bit in IPL 2020 by qualifying for the qualifiers but were eliminated from the race for the final, after losing the Eliminator to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Sanjay Bangar named Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batting consultant for IPL 2021
Former India tests opener Sanjay Bangar, who played 12 tests and 15 ODIs for the national cricket team from 2001 to 2004, donned many hats in his stint as a coach after calling the time on his playing career. He has extensive coaching experience as he was the batting coach of the Indian National Cricket Team for a long time.
Also in IPL, Sanjay Bangar coached the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) franchise for three years. Prior to Kings XI Punjab, Bangar was associated with the Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise in 2011. In 2014 he took on the role in the Indian National Cricket Team and was promoted to Assistant Coach in 2017. His contract was not renewed after the Indian semi-final. exit from the 2019 ICC World Cup.
Now the Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Sanjay Bangar their batting consultant, in addition to Sridharan Sriram, who is the batting and bowling coach. The RCB franchise announced this addition to its family on Twitter.
“We are delighted to welcome Sanjay Bangar to the RCB family as a batting consultant for # IPL2021! Welcome aboard, Coach! #PlayBold #WeAreChallengers #NowARoyalChallengerThe Royal Challengers Bangalore tweeted.
