Ross County: Football operations suspended after Covid outbreak

Ross County says shutdown is a precaution to stop spread of virus

The Ross County League Cup opener against Forfar Athletic is in doubt after the club “suspended football operations” due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

The Scottish Premiership club have said “a number” of players and coaches have tested positive.

It comes just days before the county begins its season at Station Park on Saturday.

Malky Mackay’s side last played four days ago in a 5-0 friendly win over Elgin City.

The Highlanders are currently working with health authorities to identify those affected following a series of positive tests in the past 24 hours.

The Scottish national football season begins this weekend, with crowds of 500 allowed on all fields for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

It was announced last month that 2,000 fans will then be allowed to attend football matches from July 19 if Scotland drops restrictions to zero by that date.
