IPL 2021: RCB appoints Sanjay Bangar as batting consultant for IPL 2021.
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has been named new batting consultant by the Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) for the fourteenth edition of the IPL. The Bangalore franchise took to Twitter to let fans and supporters know about the development.
“We are delighted to welcome Sanjay Bangar to the RCB family as a batting consultant for # IPL2021! Welcome aboard, Coach! #PlayBold #WeAreChallengers #NowARoyalChallenger, “ read the caption on the tweet through RCB’s official Twitter account.
Bangar was associated with the Indian national team as a batting coach from 204 to 2019. He was later replaced by Vikram Rathore as a batting coach for the Indian side in September 2019.
The 48-year-old former Indian cricketer was linked with Kings XI Punjab in January 2014 as an assistant coach. Bangar was later promoted and given the role of head coach and the franchise made it to their first IPL final under his support. Kings XI Punjab has only been in the final once and that was under Sanjay Bangar. He then coached the franchise for the next three years before relinquishing his role due to conflict of interest rules with BCCI.
The 48-year-old will join Mike Hesson, director of cricket operations for RCB, and Simon Katich, head coach on the coaching staff. The Bangalore-based franchise also has Sridharan Sriram as the batting and bowling coach, with Adam Griffith being the bowling coach.
RCB released 10 players when the successful players were announced. In addition to retention, RCB traded Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams in an all-cash deal with Delhi Capitals. It will be interesting to watch the franchise at the next auction on February 18 in Chennai.
Sanjay Bangar knows Virat Kohli because he also trained him on the Indian side. It may be associated with RCB’s good shot and it can possibly end the title drought for RCB. However, it depends more on the choice of players they pick at the next IPL auction.
