India’s head coach Ravi Shastri said on Sunday Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words of appreciation on the recent triumph of the national cricket team in Australia would strengthen his resolve to also be ‘under pressure’ during future missions.
An exhausted Indian cricket team braved injuries to its key players as well as the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli, who was on paternity leave, to register a historic 2-1 Test Series victory over Australia in their own lair earlier this month.
And the team’s ruthless effort was duly appreciated by Prime Minister Modi in his “Mann Ki Baat” address to the nation on Sunday.
“Est mahine cricket pitch se bhi bahut acchhi khabar mili. Humari Cricket Team Do Shuruati Dikkaton Ke Baad, Shaandar Wapaasi Karte Huye Australia Series Mein Jeeti. Humare khiladiyon ka hardwork aur teamwork prerit karnewala hain (This month there was some good news from the cricket pitch. Our cricket team, having cleared the first hurdles, made a brilliant comeback to win the series in Australia. Hard work and teamwork of our players are a source of inspiration), ”Modi said in his address.
The head coach of the winning team tweeted: “Thank you, sir. Your kind words will further strengthen TeamIndia and India’s determination to perform under pressure and under difficult circumstances. I Hind! “
Previously, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also thanked Modi for his appreciation.
