Papua New Guinea made history as it secured a place for the 2020 Cricket World Cup in T20 format to be held in Australia. PNG were in the 2020 World Cup qualifying round currently hosted by the United Arab Emirates and PNG dominated Group A to secure their top spot in the main event of the competition.
PNG beat Kenya in their group game by 45 points to take the place on Sunday. Although their qualification at the top of the group depended on the game between the Netherlands and Scotland. Four teams can still qualify for the 2020 Men’s World Cup and the remaining four places will be finalized on November 3, 2019 in the t20 World Cup qualifying final.
