NEW DELHI: After the West Indies defeated Bangladesh in winning the fifth largest successful fourth round pursuit in test history, cricketers, past and present, have lauded the efforts of the ‘team, especially the sublime performance of debutant Kyle Mayers.
The West Indies chased a goal of 395 on the final day at Chattogram to win the game by three wickets and secure a 1-0 lead over Bangladesh here on Sunday. The pursuit was made possible by Mayers’ undefeated strike at 210.
“West Indies win. Kyle Mayers’ incredible 210 * guides visitors to a three-wicket victory over Bangladesh. This is the fifth most successful fourth-round pursuit in test history,” tweeted the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“Kyle Mayers becomes the 6th player to score a double century of testing in his debut! What a round!” West Indies Cricket tweeted.

Former Indian drummer Virender Sehwag called it “one of the biggest pursuits.” “West Indies. Unbelievable. One of the biggest pursuits. 210 debut for Mayers. England coach Stuart Broad said test cricket is flying right now as he also mentioned the ongoing India-England match in Chennai. “Wonderful test day in India. There was a bit of everything. Wickets, great shots, fantastic catches. Test cricket is flying right now, look what the Windies have been up to…”, wrote Broad.

England scored 578 points in their first innings with help from Joe Root’s double ton. At the stumps on the third day, India’s score was 257/6, with Washington Sundar (33 *) and Ravichandran Ashwin (8 *) on the ground, behind England by 321 points.
