The brilliance of versatile Prime Minister Ravindra Jadeja may have ruined the plans for the Royal Challengers Bangalore led by Virat Kohli in the IPL here on Sunday, but with an eye on this year’s T20 World Cup, the Indian captain is failing not complaining.
In fact, Kohli seemed delighted to see his Indian teammate make a great comeback after a long injury absence.
“Her ability (Jadeja) was there for everyone to see. I’m very happy to see him play with the bat, the ball and on the pitch, ”Kohli said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
“After two months he’ll be back for India and it’s always a pleasure to see your first all-rounder succeed with the bat. When he plays well and is confident, he misses a lot of opportunities.
Kohli leaned on beleaguered race leader Harshal Patel, who conceded a record 37 points in the final to let CSK off the hook in their final.
With CSK placed 154 for four at the start of their final inning, Jadeja started off by hitting four straight sixes on Harshal before adding another on the fifth ball.
Flattened by Jadeja’s brutal assault, RCB faltered in his pursuit of 192 and was stopped at 122 for nine.
“(Harshal) played well and we will continue to support him. We will continue to give him responsibilities, he took out both beaters and took all the momentum, ”Kohli said.
After a blazing start that saw them cross 50 in five overs, RCB lost ground and ended their four-game winning streak.
“You have to look at him the right way,” Kohli said, trying to stay positive in the face of the big loss.
“I think it’s a positive feedback for our team. A performance like this is good to take it out early in the tournament. Our start was pretty decent.
“A guy completely beat us. Today his talent was there for everyone to see, ”said the Indian captain, referring to Jadeja’s brilliance.
He said he would continue to open the stick, a role he picked for himself in the T20 World Cup year.
“We have to look at the loss in the right way. I open the sleeves with Dev (Devdutt Padikkal). We will continue to test our depth at batting. As a batting team, we are confident. We’re going to change roles at some point, ”Kohli said.
