Norwich City cancels Coventry preseason friendly over Covid-19 cases

Norwich confirmed Angus Gunn and Jacob Sorensen were two players who tested positive for coronavirus

Norwich City’s pre-season game against Championship team Coventry City has been called off due to a number of cases of Covid-19 in the Canaries squad.

The news comes after goalkeeper Angus Gunn and midfielder Jacob Sorensen tested positive for the virus last week.

Norwich returns to the Premier League against Liverpool on August 14.

The club said the decision to call off Wednesday’s friendly was “a precautionary measure” following “a small number” of positive test results.

“Players and club staff will continue to follow Premier League protocols and government guidelines, operating and training in their respective first-team bubble,” a statement from the Canaries said.

Norwich won the championship last season to secure a return promotion to England’s top flight on the first try.

Daniel Farke’s side have already made three preseason games and are set to face Sheffield United on Saturday, before also meeting Gillingham and Newcastle United.
