IPL’s board has released the list of players who have set themselves a base of Rs 2 Crore for the 2021 IPL auction. The latest announcement comes in addition to a previous press release which said 1097 players signed up to go under the hammer on February 18.
No less than 207 capped players, 863 uncapped and 27 associated players, of which 814 are Indians and 283 overseas, have made themselves available for the 2021 IPL auction.
And, it has now been revealed that out of a total of 1197 cricketers who tossed their hats in the ring, 11 set a base price of Rs 2 Crore – the highest slice of money offered.
The 11 cricketers consist of two Indians and former Chennai Super Kings teammates – Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav.
As Harbhajan Singh bid farewell to the MS Dhoni-led franchise after his three-year contract expired, Kedar Jadhav was released by the three-time champions following a poor 2020 IPL.
The other nine players are namely Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy, Mark Wood and Colin Ingram.
Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith were both released by their respective franchises in Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, as was Moeen Ali by Royal Challengers Bangalore following a poor performance in the last season of the IPL.
Shakib Al Hasan, on the other hand, missed out on last season due to his two-year backdated ban. He has previously represented teams like Kolkata Knight Riders and SunRisers Hyderabad.
Jason Roy’s English band Sam Billings, Colin Ingram and Mark Wood have all performed for different franchises in the past, but they weren’t in last year’s IPL for different reasons.
When it comes to the total number of foreign players from different countries, the West Indies lead with up to 56 players throwing their names into the ring, followed by Australia (42), South Africa (38). and Sri Lanka (31). , Afghanistan (30), New Zealand (29), England (21), United Arab Emirates (9), Nepal (8), Scotland (7), Bangladesh (5), Ireland (2), United States (2) ), Zimbabwe (2)), Netherlands (1).
