IPL 2021: Krishnappa Gowtham remembers when he was selected in the IPL 2021 auction.
IPL 2021: All-rounder from Karnataka, Krishnappa Gowtham, who is currently part of the Indian national team as a net bowler, remembers when he was chosen in the 2021 IPL auction by Chennai Super Kings. Gowtham broke Krunal Pandya’s record and earned the massive INR 9.25 Crores from CSK as an uncapped Indian player.
Krishnappa Gowtham put Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a bidding war which was later joined by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and defeated both franchises to acquire the player.
“It was scary, I was very anxious to watch television”, Gowtham, who is currently on the Indian Test team in Ahmedabad as the net bowler for the series against England, told ESPNcricinfo.
“We had just landed in Ahmedabad and I had just turned on the television and my name came up. Emotions were changing every minute. Then Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya knocked on my door and gave me a big hug and they asked for a big treat.
Gowtham put his name on the auction table with the base price of INR 20 Lakhs and rose to INR 9.25 Crores. He entered the limelight in 2018 where he smashed a massive Six to death.
Gowtham was among the inaugural champions for two years before being chosen by the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2020.
The versatile man’s parents and wife were in tears when they heard the news.
The 32-year-old cricketer is a big fan of MS Dhoni and will play under him in the upcoming IPL. The off-spinner will be crucial for MS Dhoni as MA Chidambaram’s surface is suitable for spinners.
Although it is still doubtful that the sites will be changed for the next IPL or that this happens on a regular basis.
