New KXIP Name: Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) changes its name to Punjab Kings before IPL 2021.
New KXIP name: As previously reported, the Punjab Kings XI (KXIP) have opted for a name change and the franchise will now be called Punjab Kings. The team led by Kannur Lokesh Rahul and owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta will participate in the IPL 2021 auction with the new name and identity.
“The team had been planning to change their name for a long time and thought it should be done before this IPL. So it’s not a sudden decision ”, a BCCI source told PTI on Monday.
The franchise has communicated on the name change while written approval from BCCI is still pending. The new name of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will be Punjab Kings from IPL 2021.
The franchise will participate in the auction on February 18 in Chennai with the new name and logo for which is not revealed.
Official confirmation of the logo change is yet to be disclosed by the franchise.
Last season, the Punjab Kings put on a roller coaster show as they bounced back with streak wins after a horrific season opener. KL Rahul and Co. have won five straight games to keep playoff hope alive. Although CSK pushed the Punjab Kings out of the IPL campaign in the do-or-die game and the team finished third last.
Punjab Kings IPL 2021 auction preview:
Punjab Kings has the highest market value for the upcoming IPl auction. The franchise will participate in the auction with 53.2 Crores INR.
A total of 9 slots will be needed to fill, of which 5 will be foreign players. The Punjab Kings will have a perfect opportunity to chase after key players to acquire them because they have the most money.
