ROYALS LANCE SMITH

The Rajasthan Royals have freed their captain and Australian star Steven Smith and are turning to an Indian captain. Chances are, Sanju Samson will take on the big role; Smith – who took over as Ajinkya Rahane midway through the season in 2019 – fell short of his expectations and only scored 311 points in 14 games.

CSK CONSERVES RAINA, RELEASE JADHAV, CHAWLA

The Chennai Super Kings are expected to keep their old workhorse Suresh Raina, while Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay and Piyush Chawla are expected to come out. The camp has already split from Harbhajan Singh.

Lasith Malinga. – KR Deepak

WILL MUMBAI KEEP LASITH MALINGA?

Defending champion Mumbai Indians is likely to let go of his Sri Lankan pace Lasith Malinga – who missed the tournament last season. There is speculation that even Sherfane Rutherford could be released.

JASON ROY, MOHIT SHARMA ARE RELEASED AND STOINIS TO REMEMBER? Delhi Capitals is likely to free Jason Roy and Mohit Sharma. There are also indications that the franchise has decided to let Sandeep Lamichhane go. Delhi is also expected to retain Australian star Marcus Stoinis.

WHAT’S HAPPENING KKR?

The management of the KKR team are on the verge of retaining Dinesh Karthik, but there is a buzz that this could free Tom Banton – who was bought at his base price of Rs 1 crore. Franchise sources say Chris Green, Siddesh Lad, Nikhil Naik and Mr. Siddarth have also been released.
