The Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab is set to change its name to Punjab Kings ahead of the new season.
While the franchise has remained low-key on the matter, senior BCCI officials – aware of the development – have confirmed Sports star that the franchise has obtained approval for the name change.

The team, which is co-owned by Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman, Karan Paul and Priety Zinta, are expected to officially announce the new name in a day or two. Despite being in the league since 2008, the team has only finished third once and was a finalist in 2014.
The franchise has released some of its best players and is expected to cause a stir at the auction – scheduled for Thursday in Chennai.
