Chennai hosted the IPL 2021 auction last Thursday (February 18), during which we saw great battles between franchises to secure high quality players.
Much like the old IPL auctions, the more expensive major players once again made headlines due to their attractive stocks, which are the result of strong bidding wars. Here we are talking about the five most expensive cricketers in the IPL 2021 auction.
IPL 2021 auction: 5 most expensive purchases
Krishnappa Gowtham – 9.25 crore INR (Chennai Super Kings)
Krishnappa Gowtham was the most expensive Indian cricketer in the 2021 IPL auction, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought him for INR 9.25 crore. As Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) started the bidding war for him, which had a base price of INR 20 lakh, CSK ultimately won the bid for him in this auction.
After this auction, Gowtham became the most expensive uncapped player in IPL auction history, breaking the previous record of INR 8.8 crore from Krunal Pandya (Mumbai Indians).
From 2018 to 2020, Krishnappa Gowtham played 24 IPL games for two different teams, where the off-spinner took 13 wickets and the lower-order right-handed batsman scored 186 points (average 14.30; strike rate 169.09 ).
