The Indian team currently on hiatus in London are expected to play a three-day training match ahead of the five-match test series against England as the England and Wales Cricket Council (ECB) is likely to organize a match for them against a selected county. XI from July 20 to 22.
While India was initially supposed to play a few practice matches before the Test Series, the ECB removed that schedule after the COVID-19 pandemic once again raised its ugly head in the UK. Then India was supposed to play intra-team matches like they did before the World Trial Championship final against New Zealand.
However, after losing the final to the Kiwis in Southampton, one of the main reasons given was the lack of practice of the match before the match, which led the management of the Indian team and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ask the ECB for a few practice matches ahead of the Test Series which starts on August 4th.

We are working on COVID-19 operations and protocols to make sure we are able to deliver this and will confirm in due course ”, an ECB spokesperson told PTI.

“We have what we wanted. We can understand that organizing a touring match is difficult at this stage ”, said a source linked to the team and added that the Indian side also understands the constraints of the ECB.
