A critical cog in India’s bowling attack in Limit-Pass cricket heading into the 2019 50th World Cup, both wrist spinners have seen their stocks dwindle recently.
“I would love to see them play in three ODIs, because there are six spinners… I think in ODIs each bowler will be able to play 10 overs,” Laxman said on Star Sports’ ‘Game Plan’. “So the more they play bowling, the more successful they are, they will regain confidence – especially Kuldeep Yadav. Chahal is an experienced and experienced bowler. He is very confident and a very important member, keeping in mind the T20 World Cup. I think Kuldeep needs to get his confidence back, “he added.
Praising Suryakumar Yadav, Laxman, who has competed in 134 tests and 86 ODIs for India, said the 30-year-old right-hander has the potential to make the T20 World Cup squad.
“I was delighted to see the way Suryakumar Yadav beat at No.3. His first scoring shot in international cricket, that too against a quality fast pitcher like Jofra Archer, shows the kind of confidence, talent and the skill he possesses – this is a great opportunity!
“I want him to play all six games because he’s someone who can definitely get into the T20 World Cup squad, as far as I’m concerned. I want him to grow up and gain confidence for score points, ”he added.
India are set to face hosts Sri Lanka in a limited series, comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is, starting July 13.
