Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh is completely baffled by India’s decision not to play spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the first test against England in Chennai. Kuldeep last played for India in tests in 2019 against Australia and traveled with the test team for a long time without getting a match. He had a major chance when most of the bowlers were injured in Australia on the recent tour, but was not selected in the XI.
Experts have been very critical that India has decided to again omit Kuldeep from the game XI and go for Shahbaz Nadeem. With Ravindra Jadeja injured, Kuldeep is set to have the next best spinner of choice for his partner R Ashwin. Kuldeep has done well with two five-wicket runs so far in his short career and both have done so against Australia.
“It doesn’t make sense to play two Off-Spinners in Chennai”, – Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh also said he was amazed when Washinton Sundar was chosen ahead of Kuldeep Yadav. He said he could understand the reason for the selection Shahbaz Nadeem, but he does not support the selection of two off-spinners on a Chennai field. India went with Sundar as an all-rounder on his recent form with the bat and we have to wait and see if he manages to score more points as he has been really poor with the ball so far.
“It was amazing for me to see Kuldeep Yadav not have a chance in the Team India XI despite being in the squad. I can understand that since Axar Patel is injured, Shahbaz Nadeem has come as an identical replacement. But it doesn’t make sense to play two non-spinners in Chennai, ” Harbhajan Singh told Sports Tak.
Wrist rotation brings claims of different dimensions Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan also informed that Wrist Spinners brings a different dimension to the Indian bowling attack and he felt that India had missed the trick by not going for the Chinese left arm. He also mentioned Kuldeep’s five wicket hits in his last game and added that it can be demoralizing for Kuldeep to miss out on the game XI despite performing well.
“The presence of Kuldeep Yadav would have added some variety to this Indian bowling attack. In the last two tests that Kuldeep Yadav took, he had picked up five wickets. I am therefore completely disconcerted by its exclusion ”,
“It’s also not a big sign of his confidence as it demoralizes you even more when you’re part of the squad but still can’t make it into the game’s XI,” Harbhajan Singh concluded.
Harbhajan Singh is one of India’s biggest off-spinners with a formidable record and he is hopeful India will go for Kuldeep in the next game.
