Disney-Star to increase advertising costs: The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was very popular as it broke all previous audience records. Due to covid-19, Indian T20 League moved to UAE, all matches took place behind closed doors. Fans were to enjoy the games through their televisions or through online streaming platforms.
With the tournament being very popular last year, all official IPL 2021 broadcasters are ready to take advantage of it. According to reports, Disney and Star are expected to increase advertising costs by 25-30% for the next IPL season.
Sources citing Exchange4Media reported that advertising rates for IPL 2021 may increase from 14 to 15 Lakhs for 10 seconds. It should be noted that for IPL 2020, Star India was charging 12 Lakhs per 10 seconds, which will now increase by 25% according to said report.
Why can Disney Star increase its advertising rates by 25-30%?
The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League delivered a successful spectacle.
IPL 2020 saw an audience increase of 23% compared to IPL 2019 and a total of 400 billion minutes of viewing.
According to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), advertising saw a 4 percent increase in ad volumes.
“For the moment, discussions are only between the junior agency employees and Star. However, Star will only initiate formal meetings and floating prizes after BCCI announces the final schedule and match rates will also differ by day and time, ”another senior media planner informed under the guise of anonymity.
