Delhi capitals pledge 1.5 crore rupees to city’s fight against COVID-19

Indian Premier League team Delhi Capitals on Thursday pledged 1.5 crore rupees to support the nation’s fight against the raging COVID-19 pandemic.

The proceeds will be used to purchase essential medical supplies, ranging from oxygen cylinders and concentrators to COVID wellness kits.

“Together, the franchise and its patrons, the JSW Foundation and the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation are providing financial support in the amount of INR 1.5 crore to NGOs based in the NCR, the Hemkunt Foundation and the Uday Foundation,” said the IPL franchise in a statement.

“In this hour of crisis, DC stands in solidarity with the citizens of Delhi, whose efforts to selflessly help each other in the fight against COVID-19 have been inspiring. We are honored to extend our support, ”said Vinod Bisht, Acting CEO of Delhi Capitals.

The money will be spent through two non-governmental organizations.

JSW Foundation CEO Ashwini Saxena said: “JSW salutes the Hemkunt Foundation for its valuable work. With this financial assistance, we hope to support them, as well as the city of Delhi, in their relentless fight against this devastating disease. “

Hemkunt Foundation Community Development Director Harteerath Singh thanked DC for the humanitarian gesture while Uday Foundation founder Rahul Verma said that by helping his NGO provide oxygen concentrators to the needy, the IPL team has won the hearts of many Delhiites.

The capital was one of the most affected in the country during the second wave of infections, with more than 20,000 new cases and more than 300 deaths recorded daily in the last days. Many hospitals also struggle to maintain an adequate supply of vital medical oxygen.
