All-round Australian player and one of the greatest T20 players to ever play in the format, Daniel Christian, will return to Indian Premier League [IPL] after being racked up for Rs 4.80 Crore by the Royal Challengers Bangalore led by Virat Kohli following a serious bidding war in the IPL 2021 auction.
Christain, who had signed up for a base price of Rs 75 Lakh, sparked yet another bidding war as Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore took to the hammer and pliers to take advantage of elite service versatile in the game’s shortest format.
Kolkata Knight Riders placed the initial bid at Daniel Christian’s base price of Rs 75 Lakh, which was upgraded by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who offered Rs 80 Lakh. The auction war gradually heated up as the price of the Aussie broke the Crore bar.
Finally, it was the RCB headed by Virat Kohli, who requested the service of Daniel Christian for a sum of Rs 4.80 Crores.
Daniel Christian is of course no stranger to IPL. The former Australia international made his Indian Premier League debut in 2011 when he was claimed by the now-defunct Deccan Chargers.
Christain represented the Deccan Chargers in the 2011 and 2012 editions of the cash-rich league. He was chosen by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2013 season.
The Australian suffered a four-year hiatus before being picked by the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant for the 2017 season before being picked by the Delhi capitals in the 2018 IPL auction. Christain played a part outstanding with bat and ball in the triumphant 2020/21 Big Bash League campaign for the Sydney Sixers.
The all-rounder smashed 272 runs in 14 innings at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 182 in addition to claiming 15 wickets at 26.83. Overall, Daniel Christian has been in 342 T20 games, in which he scored 5116 points at an average of 23.79 in addition to claiming 255 wickets at an average of 28.48.
