Prague: Czech skipper Vladimir Darida ended his international career after the Czech Republic withdrew from Euro 2020 at the hands of Denmark, the national team announced on Sunday.

The 30-year-old Hertha Berlin midfielder, who has scored eight goals in 76 international matches, has led the Czechs in all three Euro group stage matches.

He missed the round of 16 game against the Netherlands with an injury and came on late in the 2-1 quarter-final loss to Denmark on Saturday.

“The national team said goodbye to the Euro. I then said goodbye to my teammates,” Darida said on the website of the Czech Football Association.

Darida, who started his career at Viktoria Pilsen, and made his debut in the national team just before Euro 2012, in which he was part of a team that reached the quarter-finals.

“In this last Bundesliga and international season, I spent 140 days away from home because of games and training camps,” said Darida.

“I want to spend a lot more time with the family and my grandson,” he added.
