IPL 2021: CSK will likely buy Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Dawid Malan at the mini-auction.
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: Named as the most consistent team in the Indian Premier League, even after a debacle in the previous edition. The CSK led by MS Dhoni has retained up to 18 players, including their central group. The franchise will be led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and has retained many important players.
Chennai would love to start over, leaving behind previous thoughts of IPL 2020. For the first time, CSK failed to make the IPL playoffs.
As expected, CSK has released some of the players who were on the bad side of the 1930s and the list includes six players. Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Shane Watson (retired), Piyush Chawla, Monu Singh and Murli Vijay.
“Management made the decision to release the players after reviewing their performance over the past two years. We have retained and released the players based on their performance from last season,Said CSK CEO KS Vishwanathan.
With CSK being one of the more cohesive teams and believe in supporting the major players, however, this time around they will surely go for the quality options overseas. CSK needs an explosive player at number 5-6.
According to reports, CSK will go for all three overseas options in the 2021 IPL mini-auctions. Steve Smith (posted by Rajasthan Royals), Glenn Maxwell (posted by Kings XI Punjab) and Dawid Malan will be their primary focus.
Our main focus is Glenn Maxwell: Source
“This time the franchise needs an explosive batsman, management is keen to acquire one of the three options (Steve Smith, Dawid Malan and Glenn Maxwell). Maxwell and Malan are more likely to participate as they can propel innings at any time. “ said a source close to CSK.
Glenn Maxwell had an unforgettable season last time with Kings XI Punjab. The Australian all-rounder failed to score big for his team. However, a season does not define the player’s ability. He has the power to turn the table over in one go. Maxwell’s bowling can sometimes come in handy at MS Dhoni.
The chances of the other two are less, but they are still in the race. CSK may go for Dawid Malan as they released Shane Watson their first game. CSK will require an opener however they tried with Sam Curran.
Malan would definitely be one of the top picks in the IPL 2021 mini-auction. The England drummer has climbed to number one in the ICC T20I batsman rankings in just 17-18 international matches.
Steve Smith may be an option for CSK if they don’t get the old two at auction. Smith has experience and he with Dhoni and Raina can become an aggressive pair.
