The VIVO IPL 2021 player auction list was released with a total of 292 cricketers due to go under the hammer in Chennai on February 18, 2021. 1,114 cricketers had initially signed up for the auction. The final roster was then pruned after all eight franchises submitted their shortlist of players.
INR 2 crore is the highest reserve price and two Indian players – Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav – and eight foreign players – Glenn Maxwell, Steve smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy and Mark Wood chose to be placed in the highest bracket.
12 players are in the auction list with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav are the two Indian players in the list of 11 cricketers with a base price of INR 1 crore.
A total of 164 Indian players, 125 foreign players and 3 players from associated nations will be up for grabs at the 2021 VIVO IPL Player Auction in Chennai. The auction will start at 3:00 p.m. IST.
Franchises announced the player retention list last month
Franchises announced the list of players retained and released last month on January 20. However, the negotiating window closed at 5 p.m. on Thursday and this led BCCI to release the final roster of players after franchises provided them with the roster of required cricketers.
Among the great players, the likes of Joe root, Mitchell Starc and James Pattinson have already decided to skip the possible auction for various reasons. A total of 61 slots need to be filled, 22 of which are for overseas players and it will be interesting to see who manages to win the elusive IPL contract.
Among the buzzwords is Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar, who made his senior Mumbai squad debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season. He has been shortlisted and it remains to be seen who is interested in him. Arjun kept his base price at Rs 20 lakh while SMAT stars Mohammed Azharudeen and Shahrukh Khan were also shortlisted by franchises.
