Aakash Chopra has chosen Rohit Sharma as the first choice player MI is expected to retain.
The second leg of the 14the Indian Premier League edition (initial loading) is scheduled to start from September 19 to October 15 in the United Arab Emirates. While it caught the attention of pundits, fans and critics, it was the mega auction at the start of 2022 that caught the attention of viewers.
The eight IPL franchises have already started making every possible plan as to which players they could keep on the squad, or for which player they could use the Right to Match Card (RTM). Former India opener Aakash Chopra has picked four players from Mumbai Indian (MI), whom he believes the franchise should retain for the next three-year cycle.
Five-time MI champions have always believed in keeping their core team intact. Over the past three to four years, the team has kept Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Keiron Pollard on their squad. In the last mega-auction, they had used RTM for Krunal, when the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were determined to secure the service of the versatile.
Speaking on her Youtube channel, Chopra chose Rohit Sharma, Bumrah and Hardik pandya like the three Indian players the franchise could keep in 2022. “The Mumbai Indians are the first team that comes to mind. Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya – you’ll want to keep these three players one hundred percent.
However, the 43-year-old was quick to add that neither Hardik nor Bumrah will be happy with the amount paid to the third player selected from the four. “Of these, Rohit will be the first retention, but the second and third, Hardik or Bumrah will be satisfied with seven crores. It’s a bit of a problem.

The cricketer-turned-commentator chose West Indian all-rounder Pollard as his pick for the last player MI is expected to retain. “I think they’ll hold Pollard early on. These will therefore be their four retentions.
Apart from these four players MI can also try to use RTM for Kock’s Quinton and Trent Boult, who have been great for them for the past two years.
