Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: As the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction approaches, let’s take a look at some players who may be released by the Kings XI Punjab ahead of the 2021 IPL.
Even though Kings XI Punjab did not have a stunning start to the IPL 13th season, the team under KL Rahul made a strong turnaround to win five games on the trot. From losing 5 to winning 5 on the trot, KXIP showed what he is capable of and nearly made it to the cash rich league playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended KL Rahul and Co’s hopes for the IPL qualifiers by beating in the must-see match. Although there have been a lot of tournament positives for KXIP, but some of the dire failures cannot be ignored.
Kings XI Punjab will this time be looking to salvage young weapons while some players may get a franchise release.
3 Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) players could be released before IPL 2021:
Mujeeb Ur Rahman:
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) think tanks backed the Afghan spinner in 2018 for its superb gameplay as the move appears to have gone the other way. Mujeeb made 11 appearances in 2018 IPL while he only managed to get five in next year’s IPL. 2020 for Mujeeb has been even more dire as the spinner has only had 2 games to prove himself.
In the presence of young Ravi Bishnoi and veteran spinner Murugan Ashwin, it is unlikely that Mujeeb will have a chance to feature in Game 11. The franchise will reconsider its 2018 decision and may let Mujeeb ur Rahman go before IPL 2021.
Being named one of the highest signings in the IPL 2020, Sheldon Cottrell was unable to meet his award. The West Indies international was brought in by Kings XI Punjab for 8.5 crore, but the speedster failed to match the price. Cottrell played six games for Kings XI Punjab in the 2020 IPL in which he managed six wickets in his bag.
One of the most disastrous from Sheldon Cottrell to Rahul Tewatia also took on the specialist label of Death Over. Tewatia hit Cottrell for five sixes in 18th place in the RR vs KXIP game.
The versatile Australian star is one of the flamboyant players who have the power to pull off a blinder on his own. While backing the all-rounder for 10.75 crore in the 2020 IPL, Maxwell turned out to be one of the biggest flops of the season.
The versatile player has played 13 games with a total score of 108 points. The versatile player didn’t even manage to hit a single six in the while tournament.
